So are we really helping the environment by buying “plastic bottle fashion”? No, we’re not. What stood out most to me in that article is that less than 1% of all clothing is recycled into new clothing. This article called “The Myth of Sustainable Fashion” by Harvard Business Review is also a great read when it comes to getting a better understanding of sustainability in the fashion industry of what works and doesn’t work.

This article by Well and Good does a fantastic job of explaining why plastic water bottle clothing is not great for the environment. (Whereas, if it’s made into another plastic bottle, it continues its lifecycle.) There are A LOT of clothing companies jumping on this bandwagon and claiming they’re sustainable – including Rothy’s.)Ī post shared by Passion Lilie sum this up, the main reason a piece of clothing made of recycled water bottles is not great for the environment is that once a plastic bottle is made into clothing, it won’t be recycled again…it will end up in a landfill.

(And in defense of Vivaia shoes – they are not the only company who is doing this. However, here is why this is more of a marketing ploy (aka Greenwashing) than actually being a sustainable practice. The Vivaia Shoes website (and their marketing team) swear they are helping the planet and they are saving the world by making shoes out of plastic bottles. Brands like this have taught me A LOT about what to look for when selecting where to purchase my clothing from.

I’ve started working with incredible sustainable and fair trade brands – like Passion Lilie and Carry Courage.

However, over the last couple of years, this is something I have been focusing on for myself… getting a better understanding of how to shop for sustainable clothing, purchasing high-quality items that will last for years vs fast fashion, and buying secondhand when possible.

In full disclosure, I have a lot to learn and a lot to correct with my own purchasing behavior when it comes to sustainability. I will however take a step back from my personal views, and review the overall quality of Vivaia shoes, their shipping and return policy (my experience actually using their return policy), how well Vivaia shoes hold up in the wash, and whether or not I recommend the shoes from a comfort and quality standpoint.īuckle up! This review of Vivaia shoes has A LOT to unpack. This post is going to explain why I think that, and why this company really leaves a bad taste in my mouth. This company smells of Greenwashing, and there are just too many red flags to give this company the benefit of the doubt. I have since ordered a pair of “sustainable” boots (for the purpose of this post), and they have also sent me a pair of their new Aria 5 flats.Ī lot of reviews focus on how “sustainable” and “ethical” Vivaia shoes are. My relationship with Vivaia shoes began in early 2021 when their affiliate marketing team offered to send me a pair of their “sustainable” Aria 2.0 flats to try. This post is my brutally honest review of Vivaia shoes, and why I don’t love this company. Elevation change: 320 feet (98 meters).I have A LOT to say on the subject of Vivaia shoes.
#ARCHES CLOTHING DRIVER#
You can either take this hike round trip (2 miles) back and forth or, if you are more limited in time and have more than one driver who will not be joining you on this hike, have them drop you off at the parking area and pick you up at the Courthouse Towers parking area.ġ mile (1.6 km) one way. This trail is rated a moderate hike but if you take your time and are prepared with water, a hat, sunscreen and protective clothing, you should be able to do this hike in about 1 hour. Although you can see most of the major sights from the parking areas and pullouts, there is nothing more pleasing than being below these spectacular sandstone towers and arches. So if you are more limited in time, you will also be able to view them from the Courthouse Towers area. At the end of the hike (Courthouse Towers parking) you will have a great view of the Three Gossips, North Avenue, Tower of Babel and more! However, it is not necessary to take the hike to see these views. You start at the parking area and walk 1 mile through what is appropriately named to represent a sandstone feel of the big city. This hike gives you a spectacular feel of Arches' sandstone formations. This is a one way trail that descends quickly and steeply into a beautiful canyon and takes you through the Avenue area to the Courthouse Towers. The trail is one of the first major stops in Arches National Park.
